Transformative Power of Self-Discovery and Personal Development

I’m Telisha Ray.  A mother, wife, PTSA active member, Girl Scout Leader, Neighborhood Board member, Senior Risk & Compliance Analyst, and life coach.

I’m not a writer or an author, but I want to take you on a journey.

I have worked in a corporate environment for the last 19 years; two different companies, many different managers and leaders, and too many titles to count.  The one constant was that I trained people in almost every position I’ve held. I facilitated some sort of training, and I was good at it.  I applied for a position within my company's Learning & Development team, which required creating and presenting a course on my topic of choice.  I showed my colleagues how to make a tutu! It was great! I made it to the final rounds of interviews. I did not receive an offer for the position, and I was heartbroken. And yet, it was one of the best experiences.   I felt a fire during that interview process that I hadn’t felt in a long time.  That is how I discovered my love of learning and the development of others.  Now what?

What am I supposed to do with this newly found passion?  What kind of career could I pursue with these skills?  At the time, the only type of training I had ever heard of was operational and strictly job-function-related.  “Click here, enter this data, and save.” The basics of job training and development at its core.

I never imagined that I would be asking myself, Did you know there is so much more?

Enter Life Coaching.  What’s this?  Tell me more!

Wait! Pump the brakes! If you’re me, you don’t ask those questions.  At least not out loud.  I had minimal self-confidence and made many excuses not to start a new career. “Even if I pursue it, I won’t be good at that.  I can’t help people in that way.”  I had let other people tell me that I wasn’t good enough.  I let other people decide what I could accomplish for years.  I was doing a job that I didn’t find joy in.  I was good at it, but I saw no fulfillment in it.  I loved my team, but I was miserable. I kept going with no natural optimism that it would get better.  I mean, I was getting paid, right? That’s the point of the job. I recognized that’s not the point of life. One day, I finally decided I was worth it.

I heard about Life Coaching when I saw a former colleague and friend start her journey, business, and brand. I watched her for a while, like two years; a little stalkerish.  I saw her genuine smile shining and her passion for helping others make an impact on people’s lives. Real people are transforming their lives with her love for guiding, supporting, encouraging, and commitment to developing them! She was doing it! Scared to death and nervous about failure, I took the risk, reached out, and finally asked, “What is Life Coaching? Tell me more! What’s out there waiting for me?”

Life coaching is just that! Asking those burning questions, “What do I want to do with my life? What do I hope to accomplish? What am I struggling with right now?  Could I use more balance? That’s how Life coaches can help! A life coach counsels and encourages clients through personal or career challenges. A life coach helps guide clients to reach their ultimate goals. A life coach can focus on various aspects of a person’s personal or career development.  I gain a sense of fulfillment and joy by helping people get to the next level of their careers, showing them they can, no matter who says they can’t. I want to empower those people to take control of their journeys and achieve goals they never thought possible.  I will guide you and support you on your journey! Because now I believe. No. Actually, I know that I can.  I have taken control of my future; you can too.  It just takes that one question, ‘What’s out there waiting for me?’

Let's ask the questions. Let's find the answers together!
